Failure to Communicate is a side mission available in Aranae system in Starfield.
Your objective is to help Alban Lopez who sent a distress call.
Here’s a walkthrough and guide of Failure to Communicate in Starfield.
To begin the mission, you probably need to enter the Aranae system first.
Talk to Alban Lopez
First of all, land on Lopez’s Farm at Aranae II.
You’ll see him standing in front of his house. Talk to him.
You can later enter his house to loot some ammo.
Repair the Lopez Communication Satellite
For this mission, you may need to have a good ship as the battles are mainly in space. You can get a legendary ship from the Mantis mission.
You should also get ship parts and place them in your ship’s cargo to repair your ship during the battle.
When you’re prepared, depart from the planet and head to Lopez’s Satellite.
You’ll immediately need to defeat a few Spacer ships.
After securing the area, go near the satellite and repair it.
After fixing the satellite, Alban will ask you to help repair three more satellites.
Repair the Wen Satellite, Banda Satellite and Lemaire Satellite
You’ll then need to visit three different orbits, i.e. Aranae IV-C, Aranae IV-A and Aranae V to repair the Communication Satellites by Wen, Banda and Lemaire.
The locations are all provided.
Two out of the three satellites require combat. You’ll probably need to defeat the Spacer ships.
In each area, you have to repair the satellites.
Report back to Alban Lopez
Now, head over to Jacquelyn’s ship to report back to Alban Lopez.
You’ll need to board the ship.
Wait for family meeting to end
You’ll see them all talking to one another. While they’re talking, you can go around the ship to loot stuff.
Their cargo hold has some credits and resources.
Talk to Alban
When they’re done talking, speak with Alban Lopez.
(Optional) Get Jacquelyn Lemaire to join Defense Pact
You then have an optional objective to convince Jacquelyn to join the Defense Pact.
You can persuade her to join. Perhaps if she joins she’ll be able to help in the space battle later.
Before talking to her, you can always take an aid to increase persuasion skills.
I chose the following dialogue:
- [+4] You know joining the Defense Pact is the right thing to do.
- [+4] Do you want us to fight your battles for you?
Talk to Chanda Banda
Next, speak with Chanda Banda to get him to join the Defense Pact.
Talk to Alban again
When you’re done convincing them, talk to Alban again.
He’ll then ask if you need help. You can ask for their help for the ship battles later.
Eliminate Spacer ships orbiting Aranae IV-d
When you’re ready, go to the orbit of Aranae IV-d.
Defeat all of the Spacer ships.
Return to Alban Lopez
After the battle is done, go back to Alban Lopez who is at his farm.
Clear out Spacer ships orbiting Aranae III
Now, you’ll need to go to the Starstation at Aranae III but there are Spacer ships orbiting the planet.
Once again, clear all of the enemies.
Board the Retrofitted Starstation
Once the area is cleared, board the Starstation to eliminate the Spacers on it.
Eliminate all of the Spacers inside the Starstation
After boarding the station, all you need to do is to defeat all of the Spacers inside.
Use the elevator to go up.
Continue to clear the area.
You’ll then see a locked Secure Access door. Use the computer to open it and kill the remaining Spacer.
Talk to Alban Lopez
Finally, go to Alban Lopez and the rest to complete the mission.
You’ll earn 5,000 credits.
