Valheim may be a viking themed game with boss fights but it’s also in the survival crafting genre.
In this game, you’ll need to upgrade your weapons and items as stronger enemies will surface.
One way to do so is by using stronger minerals but you have to smelt them first.
Here’s how you can unlock and use a smelter in Valheim.
How to unlock a smelter
To get the recipe to make a smelter, you need to unlock it first.
You just need to find a resource named surtling core. You can find surtling core in dungeons that are located within the Black Forest.
Inside these dungeons, there’ll be skeleton enemies and resources like amber, surtling cores, coins and so on.
Once you’ve unlocked the recipe, you’ll discover that you need at least five surtling cores to make a smelter.
How to use a smelter
After placing a smelter in your base, you need to learn how it works.
You’ll need the combination of ores + coal.
You basically have to place coal in the right side of the smelter. The max is 20 coals. If you don’t have enough coal, build a coal kiln to farm more.
For ores, you can only put 10 at a time, and it’s on the left side of the smelter.
Once you’ve put enough ingredients, just wait and the smelted ores will drop at the front of the smelter.
