In Sons of the Forest, the shovel is one of the most important items in the game.
You will need the shovel to eventually complete the story.
Here’s how you can find the shovel (location) in Sons of the Forest.
Pre-requisites
Before you can get the shovel, you need to first find the following:
Look for the cave entrance
The cave where the shovel is found is shown in the map below. It’s marked by the red X on the map. You should see a cave symbol on your GPS.
Head there and you will see a few dead bodies in the river.
One of the bodies will give you a slingshot weapon.
Enter the cave
Head inside the cave.
You will now need to use the rope gun to go to the other side.
Look up and you’ll see the rope.
Head to the water. You’ll see an extra oxygen tank if you need it.
Dive into the water
The way forward is via the water.
Dive inside and use the rebreather.
Head all the way down and you’ll see a path to go forward.
As soon as you surface, you’ll encounter a number of mutants. You can try to get them to drown.
Not long after, you’ll find a wetsuit on the ground. You can equip it if you like.
Slide down
At one point, you will automatically slide down the water.
Proceed ahead
You will then see a flare in front of you. It’s where you came from.
Look around for loot.
When you’re ready, proceed ahead. You should see some mineral deposits on the cave wall and you’ll know you’re on the right track.
On the way, you’ll come across more mutants.
How to find the shovel
You will reach an area with some flares around. There are also a few dead bodies and a some loot.
To get to the shovel area, look for a secret path hidden behind stalagmites.
You can actually jump above the stalagmites and go down.
There’s an underwater path below.
Dive into the water and head to the next side.
You will then come across over 6 big mouth mutants. To defeat them, you just need to lure them into the water and get them to drown.
After the area is clear, proceed ahead and you’ll meet some mutant babies.
Keep going until the end where you see a worker.
Take the shovel from him.
Exit the area and get the flashlight attachment
To exit the area, go back where you came from and keep towards the left.
There’s a path where you can dive underwater.
When you surface, you’ll come across more mutants including the twin mutant.
Continue ahead and you’ll find a flashlight attachment for your gun on a dead body.
Look for the path with the mineral deposits on the wall.
Continue ahead and you’ll see more dead workers around.
Follow the path until you see a sluggy mutant / big blob mutant blocking the path.
Use a grenade on it.
Follow the path that was blocked and you’ll reach a part where you need to jump down.
Just jump down and exit the cave.
