Starfield: First Contact Walkthrough And Guide

First Contact is a side mission available in Paradiso of Starfield.

Your objective is to negotiate as a middleman between Paradiso and an old ship from earth 200 years ago.

Here’s a walkthrough and guide of First Contact in Starfield.

You’ll unlock this mission as you land on Paradiso.

Speak with Chief Sugiyama

Paradiso is located in Porrima II. Land on the planet.

Head to the office to talk to Chief Sugiyama. It’s located near the landing pad.

Talk to Sugiyama.

He’ll then ask you to make contact with the unidentified ship near Porrima II.

Board the unidentified ship

Get to your ship and depart.

You’ll see a ship near the planet. Go towards it.

Hold “board” to enter the ship when you’re near it.

Talk to Captain Diana Brackenridge

Enter the cargo bay.

You’ll then be introduced to Captain Diana Brackenridge who is in charge of this ship.

Apparently they’ve been on a 200-year journey on an old ship and is surprised to see other human beings in space.

Follow Diana

Next, follow Diana as she brings you to the command center.

Talk to Diana

You’ll then have to talk to Diana again to understand what she wants in the negotiation.

Return to Paradiso

Exit the ship via the same entrance.

Go to the Paradiso resort to talk to the CEO.

Use the elevator and head to the Executive Floor.

Speak with Oliver Campbell

Go to the door and you’ll be stopped temporarily. Talk to the assistant first.

Enter the room and speak with the boss Oliver.

During the dialogue, you should ask him “What if after all this, they continue to insist their claim to this planet predates yours?” to unlock an optional objective to blow up the ship.

Then, you’ll have to choose one of two main options, i.e. to either convince them to take a settlement deal where they work under a contract, or you buy a Grav Drive and convince them to settle elsewhere.

I chose the former.

Talk to Diana

Go back to the ship to meet Diana.

As I chose the settlement option, Diana seems to agree with it.

However, she’ll need resources, which means you need to find those resources.

To reduce the workload, you can try to persuade her to spare some.

I chose the following:

[+3] I’m not asking for a lot, just what little you can spare.

Are you sure you don’t have anything to spare? I’m doing this all for you.

It worked with level 2 persuasion.

Gather resources

After talking to her, you’ll realize that you need the following resources:

Lithium – 10

Iron – 80

Sealant – 20

Fiber – 40

At this point, you can probably still choose to kill them all by overloading the reactor.

If you’re not that crazy, you can go and speak to Daisuke to help ease the burden.

Talk to Daisuke Levitz about the resources and he’ll spare 30 iron, 8 sealant and 15 fiber.

For the rest of the resources, you can either mine them on planets or you can buy some of them from vendors.

You’ll be able to buy resources like iron, lithium, fiber and sealant all in the same vendor at Jemison. One of them is UC Distribution and the other is probably near the seaport.
