Sons of the Forest which is the sequel to the highly popular The Forest is finally launching on Steam. They’re also the most wishlist-ed game on Steam at the time of writing.
The game has been delayed more than once and instead of delaying another time, Endnight Games have decided to launch the game as an early access instead.
This allows players to start playing as soon as February 23 this year.
Here are more details on what’s new in Sons of the Forest compared to its predecessor.
Sons of the Forest release date
According to Endnight Games’ Twitter account, they will release the game on the 23rd of February 2023, but it will be an early access version.
This allows players to enjoy the game while giving feedback for them to have a good full game launch in the future.
New stuff in Sons of the Forest
This sequel will also come with a lot of new animations that will make the game more immersive than before. You’ll also come across new creatures that were not featured in The Forest, but this means some of the creatures you loved in the predecessor won’t be making a comeback.
Large map
Sons of the Forest will feature a map around four times the size of the previous game.
New mutants
As some of your favorite mutants won’t be coming back, you’ll be getting new creepy ones like Virgina, a woman with three arms and three legs. There’s also a mutant which looks like a body with a really long vertical mouth and filled with sharp teeth. In the cave, you’ll find more mutants that seem to be faceless as they must have evolved underground.
More weapons
Like before, you’ll be able to use a lot of melee weapons but this time, you’ll be given more guns. Ammo might be in a shortage based on the inventory management in the trailer.
Changing seasons
The game has changing seasons which means in spring and summer, you can collect more salmon from the river. In winter, you’ll face difficulty finding food so you’ll need to store food wisely.
AI companion – Kelvin
If you’re playing alone, you can now rely on your teammate Kelvin to help gather resources like wood.
Immersive animations
The developers also made the animations more immersive. For e.g. when you’re digging the ground or chopping wood, it’ll look more realistic than before.
