It Takes Two is a new game by EA and it’s already overwhelmingly positive on Steam.
This game requires two players although only one person needs to buy the game. The other player can play it for free using a Friend’s Pass.
The first chapter of the game is called The Shed and each chapter might take over an hour to complete.
Here’s a walkthrough and guide of The Shed in It Takes Two.
The Shed (chapter 1) walkthrough and guide
In the introduction, you’ll learn some of the basic moves in the game. You’ll be assigned to either Cody or May according to which one you chose.
Wake Up Call
The first part requires you to pull down the lever together and then pick up the plugs. There are three plugs in total.
The last plug will attempt to escape.
Chase after it and you’ll find it hiding inside the glass.
Jump on the glass first. Jump and use ground pound to break the glass.
Continue chasing after the plug by going inside the wires.
In the next area, you need to jump onto the red button and ground pound it. Do it together with your partner.
Continue chasing the plug. You’ll reach an area where you have to stick onto the black and yellow surface. It will get you to the other side.
At the next part, use the tin can and roll it by running inside it.
Use the tin can as a platform to get to the top.
Continue going ahead and you’ll reach an area with a saw. Use ground pound on the plug and the switch will activate.
Climb onto the saw handle together with your partner.
Biting the Dust
You will reach the second section of the chapter.
Get inside the suction to reach the next area.
Here, you need teamwork. One person holds the hose, while the other enters the hose to reach the upper platform.
The player on the upper platform needs to ground pound the red button. The player at the bottom can now use the fan to go up.
At the next area, just jump onto the platform to reach the other side.
You will come across another puzzle. Like before, one player holds the hose up (the one on the right side), and the other enters the hose.
The player at the top will now ground pound the red button to reverse the air flow.
Again, one player holds the left-side hose up, and the other enters the hose. Ground pound the red button.
Jump inside the newly surfaced hole.
You will now reach a place with a moving fan and a spring door.
One person opens the spring door to let the other in.
Once inside, the player has to point the hose away from the fan, to let the other come in via the fan.
Once both players are in, you need to work together. Once you press the green button, the current will flow. You need to use your body to transfer the current between the broken wires.
Press the button and the other player holds the first gap. Then, you have to get to the next gap to hold it. The other player will then dash to the last gap to allow the current to flow.
Continue making your way up using the bouncing against the walls thingy.
Here, you need to keep enterting the holes to proceed.
You will then reach the ceiling fans. Just time your jumps here.
At the vertical fans, one player has to turn the wheel while the other cross to the other side.
The other player has to press the green button to move the fans.
You will then reach a green structure with red and green fans. One player controls the lever while the other has to fly through the area.
Move the lever to allow the player to float. While he jumps to the next fan, immediately move the lever again. The timing has to be right. Continue the process until the other player gets to the next side.
Once the other player is at the other side, there’s another lever, and the left-behind-player has to go through the same steps.
You will reach an area with green circuit boards. Continue jumping your way up.
Like before, you need to use the hose to point up, while the other enters the hose.
The player at the top needs to ground pound and the air flow is reversed. Use the hose to fly up.
You will reach another area with fans. Like before, move the lever to change direction of airflow.
The timing has to be right. As the player jumps to the next fan, move the lever quickly to change airflow.
The player who jumped to the other side has to point the hose towards the left of the spinning object (image below). There’s only one platform the stranded player can climb on, out of all the four circular things.
Once the player is on the platform, point the hose again to move it. The player on the platform has to duck when going through the wire fence or he’ll die.
At the next side, you need some agility.
One player ground pounds the red button when the other player is standing on the wooden platform. The other player needs to jump into the hose to get sucked in.
In the meantime, the player who did the ground pound need to rush to the other side of the hose, and point it upwards.
The player who is at the other side now needs to ground pound the red button to reverse the flow. The first ground pound player has to enter the hose now.
Now, two of you will be separated. One player has to start the hose by pressing the green button.
Suck all of the red color bombs.
The other player needs to point the hose towards the mouth of the object to weigh it down. Continue the process until the object is lowered.
The player who vacuumed all the red bombs have to cross over using the lowered platform.
Two of you will meet again. Push the block together towards the end.
Boss Fight – How To Defeat The Vacuum Tower
You will then reach your first boss fight.
It will shoot out bombs that are easily avoidable.
The way to winning is very straight forward. One person uses the hose at the bottom to suck the bombs.
The other player uses the hose at the top and aim at the vacuum boss. This results in you shooting bombs back at the vacuum boss.
At some point, it will shoot out land mines. These are also avoidable.
Once the health is zero, go to the vacuum boss’ hose. The two of you have to push the hoses towards the eyeballs of the boss to win.
The Depths
You will now reach the next section called The Depths.
Jump onto the roomba and avoid the poisonous water to not die.
Enter the vent to get to the next side.
You will unlock a hammer and nails at the next section.
May uses the hammer while Cody will get a nail. Cody will get up to three nails by the end of the chapter.
Hit the yellow button with the hammer to move the blue platform.
While the blue platform is on the other side, Cody has to shoot a nail at the yellow target to get the blue platform stuck.
You can now cross over using the blue platform.
At the next area, shoot the nail towards the first yellow target. May will then be able to jump and use the hammer to swing to the next area.
Continue the same method until you reach the end.
At the end, use the hammer to hit the yellow button for the bridge to open.
Cody will then get his second nail here.
In the next area, May has to hammer the buttons to push the platforms up. While the platforms are up, Cody has to nail the targets to keep the platforms up high.
In the next area, you’ll find a minigame called Whack-a-Cody which is basically Whack-a-mole. This is mainly for fun.
Head to the next area. Shoot a nail at the target to open a path.
In the next area, use the nails to swing to the next side.
Cody has to stand on the yellow platform while May hits the yellow button.
Cody needs to jump onto the hanging platform and the gate will be raised. Shoot a nail at the target to keep the gate open.
Once both players are past the gate, shoot the next target to open a pathway.
This part requires more teamwork. Cody has to shoot a nail to allow May to get past.
However, you may want to explore the Flip the Switch minigame first, before crossing over.
Once you’re ready, May has to do the jumping while Cody has to shoot the nails to time it properly.
May has to jump on the first moving platform while Cody stops the platform before the grinding wheels drop. Once the grinder is up, release the nail and May has to jump to the left side platform.
Hammer the yellow button and go up to the next level.
Cody has to stick the nail into the moving yellow wood, while May crosses over with the hammer.
For the top part, the nails have to be at the right position. Shoot a nail on the right-side yellow board first. May has to jump onto the first yellow board.
While moving in a circle, you need to shoot a nail at the left-side board in a way which allows May to jump to the top of the board. The timing has to be correct.
Otherwise, May will get crushed by the cogs.
Finally, May has to hit the yellow button and Cody has to stand on the yellow platform.
At the next part, Cody has to time the run well. When the grinders are moving away, sprint towards the small platform.
May will then need to hammer the yellow button to push Cody up before the grinders slice him. It’s all timing here.
You will reach another climbing puzzle. Shoot the first two targets to let May climb up.
Then, shoot the left-most target to open the wall. May has to jump onto the wall. Then, shoot the right-side target to activate the second wall.
This allows May to bounce-jump to the top. Deactivate the right-side wall and open the platform just on the right of it. May has to jump onto that platform.
To reach the even higher platform, open the right-side wall again to allow May to bounce and jump even higher.
The next two platforms should be straightforward.
At the next part, you need to hammer the glass to allow Cody to come through.
You will now reach a red toolbox. Try to open it together with Cody.
Your job now is to get to the red toolbox but there are obstacles here.
You’ll come across many nails coming down from the top. You can avoid them by looking at the shadows.
Try not to die together or you’ll have to repeat the climb.
Boss Fight – Defeat the Red Toolbox
You will now reach the second boss fight. Avoid the nails coming down.
Wait for the toolbox to use his sweeping movement. Dodge it by jumping above his hand.
Cody has to immediately shoot the hand to trap it temporarily.
Shoot two more nails to allow May to jump to the other side.
At the other side, hammer the padlocks.
In the next part of the fight, the toolbox will try to reduce your standing area.
He will use a hole saw to drill holes and also regular saws to cut off parts of the platform. Nails will still fall from the top.
You just have to keep avoiding his attacks first.
He will use a swatting attack this time. After the toolbox leaves his swatting hand on the platform, you need to be quick. Cody stands on the swat while May hammers the yellow button to push Cody up.
While in the air, Cody needs to quickly shoot nails at the gas canister above the toolbox.
The fight ends when you’ve destroyed the gas canister.
Wired Up
The last part of the chapter is Wired Up.
Here, just slide on the wires.
At some sections, you need to do things simultaneously. For instance, there are two buttons on two different wires.
Each of you have to slide at the same time and press the green button while sliding through. This will cause an explosion and a new path is open.
Continue riding the wires and avoiding obstacles.
You will come across more simultaneous button-pressings like before.
The Shed (chapter 1) ends after you’ve gotten out of the area and into the tree area of the game.
You will meet a talking binoculars.
