Escape Memoirs: Questionable Side Stories is a new free puzzle game on Steam. They have made many similar puzzle games in the past but only a few are free to play.

Like its predecessors, this game also comes with difficult puzzles to solve but it’s really satisfying when you find the solution.

Here’s a walkthrough and guide of the puzzles in **Escape Memoirs: Questionable Side Stories**.

This guide will be divided into the various areas and puzzles.

**Entering the sewer puzzle guide**

As soon as you start the game, you’ll realize that your character has entered a room from the outside.

You’ll see a box that is locked. The padlock only needs 1 number, so you can keep scrolling until it opens.

Inside the box, take the Audio Reel #1. Place it on the device and listen to it.

Then, examine Audio Reel #1 and you’ll see hints on it.

Now, go to the number lock.

Bring the paper with you.

The hint on the Audio Reel #1 indicates up, right, down and northeast direction. If you look at the paper, you’ll see the triangle in the middle. Follow the direction and you’ll get 5,8,2,3.

Use it to open the lock.

The door is now unlocked.

**Unlock the door to the sewers**

In the next room, you’ll see two ropes dangling. You can do that later.

Observe the color of the cloths in the area. You’ll see a red cloth at the very top.

Next, you’ll see a blue-ish cloth.

Go down further and there’s a yellow and green cloth on the same level.

At the bottom, there’s an orange cloth.

To open the door with different colored buttons, follow the positioning of the cloths earlier. Red is the top and orange is the bottom.

Brown should be at the second lowest but I personally didn’t see it. In any case, you can follow the solution below.

Go to the sewers and follow the path. Take the metal rod.

**How to solve the weight and ropes puzzle**

Now, go back to the ropes in the area.

You need to get both ropes to enter the hatch on the bottom. At the bottom, you’ll see five weights you can take.

There’s also another weight somewhere in the middle that is hidden.

Also, you have to be aware that there are two different types of weights.

Each rope should have a dual-weight on it.

For one of the ropes, you have to place a weight at the very top.

Now, both ropes should be inside the hatch.

Place the metal rod you found earlier.

Now, remove all of the weights one by one.

The ropes will pull up the object.

Inside, you’ll see a wrench. Take it.

Use the wrench to open the door in the sewers.

**How to open the numbered door**

You will now enter a new space.

First of all, you can open the numbered door.

The first pad lock is 33. It’s the middle number as 76 54 is just a countdown to 3, similar to 45 67 which is a count up from 3 (76543 / 34567).

The second padlock is 43 which follows the other numbers.

As for the third padlock, you’ll notice one number is 16. The answer is 168. You have to solve the left first = 64, 32, 16 (divide by 2). The right one is 8, 4, 2 (divide by 2).

Add together you get 168.

For the last padlock, you just need to minus the numbers downwards from 54, 43, 32 and the answer is 21. Each number is deducted by 11.

Open the door and you’ll see a tunnel to the next room. Take the Audio Reel #3 back to the first room.

**Solve the 1 – 5 number puzzle**

The next puzzle in the first room is a square with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

You just need to match the rust on the tiles to the rust on the wall around it.

You can follow the solution below.

Open the cabinet and you’ll see the hint to the next puzzle.

**Solve the wheel puzzle**

There are five wheels on the left. You just need to follow the hint given by the previous puzzle. The lines are represented by the metal rods on each wheel.

Rotate the wheel following the hint and you can now switch the power on.

**Open the padlock**

Now, go back to the room using the tunnel.

There’s a box with a padlock on it that requires four numbers. Just near the box, there are pillars.

Take the wine bottle behind the pillar.

Examine the wine bottle and you’ll see the year 1950. That’s the answer for the padlock.

Inside the box, you’ll get a clue for the shape puzzle.

**How to solve the shape puzzle**

In the same room, there’s a painting. Take the painting which contains a clue to another puzzle. You can leave that first.

Now, you’ll see a puzzle with 9 shapes. You can use the hint from the box earlier to solve it.

The answer from the hints is to press all buttons apart from the middle one and then push the Open button.

Inside, you’ll find a key. Take it.

**Unlock the door**

Now, use the hint behind the painting. The letters b, g, e, b, b, a, i are highlighted.

You just need to pull the levers according to the order of those letters.

The door will open and you’ll see a small area.

Use the key from earlier to open the next door.

**How to solve the sound puzzle with six buttons**

Inside, there’s a sound puzzle. There are six buttons with different sounds.

You have to press four buttons in the correct order of the sound.

The sound is based on the Audio Reel #3’s recording.

You will hear a long screech, short screech, door slam and so on.

You can follow the buttons in the order of the sounds as shown below.

The door is now unlocked.

**How to solve the puzzle on opposite walls**

Go all the way and you’ll reach a room with a locked door and two puzzles on opposite sides.

Take the mop.

Go back to the sewers to mop one of the stained walls.

You’ll see the clue for the wall.

You need to observe the five shapes revealed by the mop. In each logo, there are two shapes in it. For e.g. the top one has a circle and a hexagon.

Now, observe the opposite sides of the wall to see which of the same grid on each side has a hexagon and a circle. When you find the exact grid in which the two shapes are on both walls, then that is the answer for that particular row.

You need five rows of it.

After finding the answer, you can key in the answer on the green padlock based on the positioning of the grids. The solution is shown below.

**Switch on the power**

Go to the next area.

You will see six switches. Switch them on following the answer below. They are based on the clues written.

Now that the power is on, go to the middle device. You’ll see a steel chain dangling at the top corner.

Now, you need to move the steel chain using the levers with directional arrows.

Your goal is to bring the steel chain to the left side to push the bridge down.

Now, cross over to the other side.

You’ll see another puzzle.

**Reduce the water level**

To reduce the water level, you need to solve this puzzle with unique bolts and wrenches.

The goal is to fix the unique bolts and find the corresponding wrenches to tighten them.

You’ll need to find the matching bolts that are scattered all over the shelves.

Then, you’ll notice that there are four wrenches in total.

One of the wrenches is hidden at the upper part of the shelf. You have to ensure that the bolt matches the wrench shape and you’ll need to use the wrench to tighten it.

Do the same thing for all three sides.

Now that all three are done, you’ll notice that the water level is down. Use the ladder to climb down.

Cross over to the other side and use another ladder to go up.

**How to solve the pipes area**

You will reach an area filled with pipes. You will also notice different colored wheels to turn and gears lying around.

First of all, you may want to pick up the gears.

Explore the area and you’ll find a wall you can place the gears in. You just need four gears.

For the other wheels, you need to find this paper on the wall. You’ll see the positioning for each colored wheel. Red is east, blue is south and white is northwest.

Go around the area and turn the wheels according to the diagram. Look for the yellow arrow at the bottom of each wheel. Then, the handle of the wheel has to be at the correct position.

For e.g. you can see the handle of the blue wheel below is south of the yellow arrow just like the diagram.

Do the same thing for all wheels according to the hint given.

When the wheels are in the correct position, the red gear will turn.

Place all the other gears and they will turn accordingly. The door will open.

**How to open the door**

In the next area, you’ll see a hint with colors and numbers on the left wall.

Ignore it first.

Go to the door which says “To reach the end, you need to push forward, find a path, and see the un-seeable”.

Go below the sign and you’ll see some buttons. Push it and the door opens.

**Solve the gear puzzle**

In the next room, you’ll see a few puzzles and many buttons on the wall.

Do the gear puzzle first.

You can rotate each gear including the middle one.

The aim is to ensure that each gear doesn’t overlap with the surrounding or with one another.

Once they’re all not blocked, press the red button.

Take the flashlight inside.

Use the flashlight and you’ll see hidden stuff.

**How to solve the dual lock puzzle**

Shine the flashlight and you’ll see paint on both locks.

For the left side lock, you need to look for the diagram with lines and shine the flashlight to see the hidden lines.

The hidden lines form a number on each row. The numbers are 2, 0, 8, 6 for the left side lock.

For the right side lock, you need to follow the diagram from earlier which contains colors. The hint is green, blue, white and pink.

The answer is 4164.

**Button puzzle guide**

Next, you need to solve the buttons puzzle to open the door. Use the flashlight and you’ll see the direction you have to press the buttons.

This one is tricky because of the positioning. You will need to push the buttons according to how you write the number 5.

However, the diagram is actually sideways. You can see the image below. Where you’re standing is at the exit door and it’s actually on the right-side of the diagram.

You have to start pressing from the side of the room, followed by the exit and entrance buttons, and then the last three buttons.

**Final puzzle guide**

You will now reach the final room.

There’s a padlock in the room and the code is 7912 but I’m not sure what’s actually inside or whether it’s needed.

Open the drawers at the side of the coffee machine. Look from the side and you’ll see a small key.

Use the key to open one of the drawers.

You’ll find plenty of cash inside and each stack of cash is labeled with phone numbers and names.

Look at the paper and it says Bill Burrow who is probably the handyman.

Take a look at Richard Wood’s cash stack next who is also another handyman.

His phone ends with 512. The last three digits = profession.

Combine the front 3 digits from Bill’s paper and the last 3 digits from Richard Wood and you get 826-512.

Use the phone to call the number.

You will get the automated door service number which is 023151.

Call that number instead. Then, dial 2 to open the door for exiting the area.

They will ask for the door ID. The door ID is 312 as stated at the top left corner of the door.

The game ends here.
