Fontaine Research Institute Chronicles is a world quest available in Genshin Impact 4.1.
Your objective is to help the Fontaine Research Institute with some tasks including Survey Anchors.
Here’s a walkthrough and guide of Fontaine Research Institute Chronicles in Genshin Impact.
To begin the quest, look for the NPC who is near the Statue of the Seven in Fontaine as shown in the map below. You’ll see a quest marker.
You’ll see the guy surrounded by Mekas. Defeat all of the Mekas.
Find Nacker
Head upstairs to look for Nacker who is the senior researcher. You’ll also meet a reporter of the Steambird named Chronie.
Go to the Executive Office of Fontaine Research Institute
Then, head to the marked area on the map to find the Executive Office.
Go to the Materials Office of Fontaine Research Institute
Next up, head to the Materials Office as marked in the map.
You’ll now be taught how to use the Research Terminal and transfer energy between different storage devices. It’ll be needed to solve the puzzles in this quest.
Retrieve the Survey Anchor
Use the Research Terminal. You’ll see a symbol you can decipher. Point at the red camera.
You’ll then see the terminal that has power. Absorb the power by clicking on it.
Go to the other camera and transfer the energy to the terminal that does not have power. The door will then open.
Go and retrieve the Survey Anchor.
Defeat the malfunctioning meka
Then, take down the mekas in the room.
Recover Fontaine Research Institute research assets
Head to the marked area near the river and recover the research assets.
The last asset is hidden under some rubbish. Destroy it and retrieve the asset.
Defeat the mekas
You’ll now face more malfunctioning mekas. Take them down.
Go to the Fontaine Research Institute
Next, head to the main building of the Fontaine Research Institute and talk to Raimondo and the other dude.
Retrieve the Survey Anchor from the Institute Dormitories
You’ll now get two sub-quests, i.e. to retrieve Survey Anchors from two locations.
I chose to do the Institute Dormitories first. You’ll see some Fatui there near the door where the Hydroculus is.
Go downstairs to enter the institute. You’ll need to open a door to get the Survey Anchor.
To do so, get the Ousia Block first.
With the Ousia Block, hit the terminal and the device will start working.
Enter the room and take the terminal that can be picked up.
Use the device to transfer the energy from the powered terminal.
Place the terminal near the device you need to power up and transfer the energy there.
You can pick up the powered terminal and place it near the device to make it work. Start the device to open the door. Get the Survey Anchor.
This one’s optional, but you can take the terminal and place it at the device upstairs to open the door and get the Hydroculus.
Get the Survey Anchor from the Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering Region
Head to the Institute of Kinetic Energy as marked in the map.
Defeat the Gardemeks in the area.
Go to the marked area and you’ll meet Nacker. He’ll open the first door.
Inside, get the Ousia Block above the camera.
Hit the terminal nearby to power it up.
Then, use the research device to absorb energy from that terminal.
Transfer the same energy to the terminal that needs powering up.
Enter and retrieve the Survey Anchor. Defeat the mekas after.
Return to the Institute
When you’re done, head back to the Institute.
Go to the ruins of the Fontaine Research Institute
Head to the marked area to reach the ruins. You’ll see the floating blocks of water in the air.
Make your way up using the bubbles. Pop the bubble and you’ll see a mechanism that will transfer you elsewhere. Keep doing that.
Continue to make your way up.
Just keep following the bubbles.
You’ll eventually reach the top of the ruins and you’ll see a big machine.
Defeat all of the malfunctioning meka
Head towards the Arkhium which is the greenish thing in the device. Defeat the malfunctioning mekas.
Take photo
Use the Kamera to take pictures and documents of the area. Just click on the take photo button.
Find Chronie
Head back to the machine to find Chronie there.
Return to the Institute
While Nacker is doing his thing, return to the Institute to report to Raimondo. During the cutscene, you’ll see an explosion.
Go to the ruins
Head back to the ruins of the Fontaine Research Institute to find out what had happened. Use the fast travel waypoint there.
Defeat all of the mekas.
Recover the condensing components
You’ll then need to recover the condensing components in four different locations as marked in the map.
In each of the locations, you’ll need to follow its own mechanisms. They’re all similar in the sense that you look for the bubble and keep following the subsequent bubbles.
Go until you’ll see a way to enter the contaminated water.
Inside the water, look for the condensing component that looks like a terminal. Watch out for the bar above your health as you can drown if it goes to 100%.
All of the four locations will use similar steps but there’ll be some differences in them.
One of the locations require you to use a ranged character to shoot bubbles.
Another will require you to fight enemies all the way down.
The fourth one requires you to navigate around the block of water by going towards bubbles. As the water inside is blocked by invisible walls, you’ll need to go in and out a few times to make your way to the condensing component.
Talk to Raimondo
After collecting all four condensing components, talk to Raimondo.
Shut off the Experimental Field Generator
The weird machine is an Experimental Field Generator. Defeat this machine which is sort of a boss fight.
At one point, gravity becomes weaker and you’ll be able to jump higher to dodge its wave attacks.
Return to the Fontaine Research Institute
Now that you’re done, Raimondo will ask you to keep a secret. Go back to the Institute.
I chose to keep silent with Chronie but I’m not sure if it has any effect. She still leaves the area as she’s fed up with the two researchers.
The quest ends here.
